If you are interested in being a delegate at the Libertarian Party of Michigan State Convention or the Libertarian National Convention in Austin, here’s what you need to know.
We will be electing delegates and alternate delegates for the National Convention on Saturday, March 14, 2020.
The Libertarian Party of Michigan State Convention
When: Saturday, March 14, 2020
Where: at the Eberhard Center at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids.
Voter eligibility: If you would like to be a delegate/alternate delegate at the Libertarian Party of Michigan State Convention you must be a dues-paying member of the Libertarian Party of Michigan. People who have never been a Libertarian Party of Michigan member must join the LPM 30 days prior to the convention, by 11:59 pm on February 13, 2020 to be eligible to vote. Past LPM members whose memberships have lapsed or current National members, may pay $25 to renew their LPM membership as late as convention day. You may join or renew through the form at the bottom of our web page, www.michiganlp.org. Affiliates/regions may choose a number of alternates equal to their number of delegates.
The business meeting will be held during the day to consider LPM business and to elect delegates to the Libertarian National Convention in Austin Texas over Memorial Day weekend. There will also be a lunch program and the LibertyFest Banquet in the evening. Anyone may attend the convention, but only delegates, or in their absence their alternates, will be able to vote.
Becoming a delegate at the Libertarian Party of Michigan State Convention
Each affiliate will be holding delegate selection caucuses prior to the State Convention in March to select our delegates and alternatives for the Libertarian Party of Michigan State Convention. If you are elected as a delegate at your local affiliate you will be eligible to vote at the State Convention. During the State Convention delegates will be nominated and elected. These elected delegates will attend the Libertarian National Convention in Austin in May 21-25.
Libertarian Party of West Michigan Delegate Election Convention
When: Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at 7 PM – 8 PM
Where: Brann’s Steakhouse & Grille (5510 28th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI)
If you are interested in becoming a delegate to the State or National Convention and live in West Michigan, please attend our delegate election convention. In order to be elected as a delegate from the West Michigan affiliate you must join the LPM 30 days prior to the convention, by 11:59 pm on February 13, 2020.
If you are a new member of the LPWM you will not be able to vote during the delegate selction, but you can still be nominated and elected to the State Convention if you meet the voter eligibility. Only dues-paying members of the Libertarian Party of West Michigan who have been members of the LPWM 90 days prior to our Delegate Election Convention are eligible to vote on delegates. If you are a new member of the LWPM affiliate you can still be elected as a delegate to the State and National Convention so please join the LPWM today and attend this important convention.
